The supply and installation of an Alpine EZI-DAB add-on module. With this we also installed a roof mounted shark fin aerial to give the best possible signal.
Adding DAB to an older vehicle can be a practical way of bringing modern digital radio functionality to the existing audio system without necessarily replacing the complete stereo. For this 2003 Audi S3, an Alpine EZI-DAB module was selected as the solution for adding digital radio functionality to the vehicle.
The installation also included a roof-mounted shark fin aerial. Positioning the aerial externally on the roof provides a discreet finish while helping to achieve a strong DAB signal. The aerial is integrated into the exterior of the vehicle, as shown in the installation photographs.
Alpine EZI-DAB and Shark Fin Aerial Installation
The Alpine EZI-DAB add-on module provides a way to introduce DAB radio into a vehicle where a complete stereo replacement may not be required. For the Audi S3, the module was installed as part of a tailored upgrade, with the additional aerial fitted to support the digital radio reception.
A suitable aerial is an important part of any DAB installation, as reception can vary depending on the vehicle, location and type of aerial used. An external roof-mounted aerial can offer advantages over a basic internal aerial because it is positioned outside and above the vehicle. Source Sounds also provides different DAB aerial solutions depending on the vehicle and installation requirements.
For this Audi S3, the shark fin design gives the aerial a neat appearance that suits the vehicle while keeping the installation relatively discreet. The gallery images show the aerial fitted to the roof, along with views of the vehicle and the installation area.
If you are considering adding digital radio to an older vehicle, DAB radio installation can be a useful option for upgrading the existing system while retaining the character of the original vehicle. Source Sounds can assess the vehicle and recommend a suitable DAB solution based on the existing stereo and the type of installation required.
